• Always use good quality locks to close your unit. Locks are available for sale at ExtraShop —just ask our staff for a recommendation
• Use good quality storage boxes. We sell cardboard boxes in four different sizes for your convenience
• Fill all the boxes to full capacity; half full or bulging boxes may tip or collapse under the weigh of other stacked boxes or items
• The heaviest items should be packed into small boxes so that they are easy to lift, they should be labelled accordingly and place at the bottom when stored in your unit if possible
• Label or number all boxes for easy reference and time saving when you need to locate your goods
• Write an inventory of your stored goods and items and keep it in a safe place at home. If you wish we can keep a copy for you for extra piece of mind
• Protect your most fragile goods with bubble wrap available at ExtraShop and sold by the metre!
• Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in tissue paper or bubble wrap before storing • Garden equipment should be cleaned before storing
• Wrap table legs with bubble wrap before storing
• Wardrobe boxes allow you to store your clothing on hangers which keeps their shape and safes you valuable space!
• Place heavy or bulky items in the room first to provide a good stacking base • Plan your storage space - put those items that you need to get to most often near the front, close to the door
• To maximise space, stack similar sized boxes together
• Do not place heavy items on sofas or mattresses as they will deform the original shape
• Always place a protective cover over your soft furnishings; we stock different sizes and types of cover to protect your furniture and appliances
• Stack chairs seat to seat with cloth or paper to separate them
• Leave refrigerator or freezer doors open for ventilation
• When storing garden and lawn equipment it should be cleaned before storing and drain any fluids prior to storage to avoid corrosive damage
• Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in mirror boxes, marked fragile and stacked on their end
• Mattresses should be covered and stored flat on level surfaces.
• Larger appliances, such as stoves or refrigerators, provide additional space for storing towels, blankets, etc
• Break down items such as table legs, and store tabletops and sofas on end, to save space
• Cover your goods with dust sheets to protect against dust
• Be careful not to store anything combustible, (such as paint and chemicals), or perishable, (such as food that is not permanently sealed).
